“After he said this, he was taken up before their eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight. They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going…” – Acts 1:9-10a
The church calendar marks today as Ascension Day – 40 days after Easter when we remember how Jesus was taken up into heaven. There on a mountainside the disciples were left in His heavenly wake and we read these words, “They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going…” They were looking intently after Him. In many ways this is exactly what we’ve been doing in our Re: Vision series. Over the last few weeks we’ve dove into the calling story of Samuel as we try to look intently after Jesus.
This Sunday we’ll continue on in our series as we explore the message God gave to Samuel in 1 Samuel 3:10-18. There we hear God speaking words of judgement upon Eli and his family. Together we’ll consider how Samuel must have felt receiving this message and then having to share it with his mentor, Eli. If you have a chance read through the passage and ask yourself how you would have felt delivering this harsh news.
This week in our worship service we’ll also draw names for our new Elders and Deacons. As we move towards Sunday join in in praying that God will bless these incoming leaders. Finally, I invite you to join me for a time of prayer at 8:45am as we seek God’s vision for us as a church.
Looking forward to seeing you on Sunday.
Grace and Peace,
