First of all, let me offer you an early yet full – Happy Thanksgiving! I hope this weekend will be filled with good food, good company, and good thanks.
I also hope you’ll take some time to attend our Thanksgiving Service on Thursday morning at 10:00AM. Pastor Morris will lead the service in which we’ll conclude our series on Stewardship by looking at God’s goodness from Psalm 8. I encourage you to take a moment and read through the passage as God is lifted up as our good creator. As in years past, there will also be an opportunity to share one or two of your own thanksgivings in the service. Let’s give thanks to our great God!
Following our Thanksgiving service we’ll move on Sunday into the season of Advent. Over the next four Sundays we’ll walk toward Christmas in a series entitled “Our Coming Savior.” Throughout these weeks we’ll hear from four of the prophets in the Old Testament who will call us to look forward to Jesus’ birth.
This Sunday we’ll recognize that while this Christmas season is often billed as a time filled with joy and hope the truth is that it’s a dark time for many of us. Too often we walk into the Christmas season feeling as though we’re surrounded by the wreckage of the past year. Together we’ll look at the hope God offers us even in the midst of our struggle from Jeremiah 33:1-16.
Finally, I’d like to say I’ll see you on Thanksgiving, however this year I, Sam, and the boys will be away for the holiday. But I am looking forward to seeing you on Sunday as we begin our Advent journey anticipating the coming of our Savior. Until then, Happy Thanksgiving, and know that I am giving thanks for you and for Fuller this year.
Grace and Peace,
